What began as a practical solution for one frustrated grower has become one of Gallard Group’s proudest specialties.
In the early 2000s, John Gallard was hand-pruning orchards and struggling to manage the heavy prunings that followed. Small flail mowers couldn’t keep up, so he went looking for a better way. Sitting in an Adelaide accountant’s waiting room, he came across a forestry magazine, saw a powerful mulcher built for clearing vegetation, and decided to try it.
He imported the machine, paired it with a 125-horsepower tractor — more than double what anyone was using in citrus at the time — and the results were remarkable. Word spread quickly. Growers lined up to have John clear and recycle their old trees, and from that spark the Gallard mulching service was born.
Today, Gallard Group leads the industry in regenerative orchard redevelopment — turning retired plantings and seasonal prunings into nutrient-rich organic matter that builds healthier soil and stronger future crops.
